Ghana, South Africa agree on visa waiver regime for ordinary passport holders

Ghana and South Africa have agreed on the implementation of a waiver for visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders.

The waiver is for a cumulative period of 90 days per annum. The implementation starts November 1, 2023.

A statement issued by the South African High Commission in Accra on Friday, October 13 said “The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa has the honor to inform the Republic of Ghana that both governments agreed to implement the waiver for visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders for a cumulative period of 90 days per annum with effect from November 1, 2023.

“Should the 90 days be exhausted within the twelve-month period ordinary passport holders are required to apply for a visa to enter the Republic of South Africa? ”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration also said in a statement that ” the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa have entered into an agreement on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passports. The agreement takes effect from November 1, 2023.”

The Ministry further said travelers may “transit through, depart from and stay in the territory of both countries for a cumulative period of  up to 90 days without recourse to work.”

The traveling public is hereby advised to take note of this development, the Ministry added.
