Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East Constituency, Hon. Seid Mubarak, is spearheading the construction of a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital.
Once completed, the facility will be fully equipped with cutting-edge cancer screening and treatment technology, providing critical services previously unavailable within the immediate area.
The MP disclosed this when members of the Health Committee of Parliament visited the Sunyani Teaching Hospital on a monitoring visit where they chanced upon the Hon. Mubrak who took them to the project site.
The visit by the Committee forms part of a nationwide monitoring exercise aimed at assessing conditions in healthcare facilities and engaging directly with regional health administrators, staff and management of Government-sponsored hospitals.
The team led by Dr. Sabestian Sandaare included Professor Titus Beyuo, the MP for Lambussiee and Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, the member for Pru East also visited the St Anne Hospital in Damongo, the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman and the Goaso Municipal Hospital. Two other teams toured the northern and southern belts respectively.
Mr. Mubarak emphasized his commitment to prioritizing health in his development agenda, vowing to do everything possible to address the healthcare needs of the people.
He disclosed that the project was initially meant as a cold room after a harrowing experience he went through with the death of a brother.
According to him, the plan however changed when he encountered some of his constituencies who were battling various cancers and decided to transform the project into a cancer diagnosis and treatment centre.
The building has been completed and roofed and needs fittings and installation of equipment for services to begin.
The team congratulated Hon. Mubarak for his foresight and the fact that the project is being funded from his pocket and encouraged other Members of Parliament, especially those who are doctors to mobilize funds and embark on such laudable projects for the benefit of their constituencies.
