Teenage pregnancy prevalent in Bongo because our drinking water stimulates sex drive – DCE

District Chief Executive for the Bongo District Peter Ayinbisa has blamed the numerous teenage pregnancies in his District on the water they drink..

He says he has information that the water being drunk by the people of Bongo makes the women very fertile and the men sexually active.

Although according to him, his claims can not be proven scientifically, some Nurses have confirmed to him the wonders the water drunk in Bongo does to men and women from the District.

Making this known in a conversation with Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, Peter Ayinbisa said, “Somebody told me a story that the water we drink makes us {men} sexually active and makes the women highly potent”.

Adding that “I don’t know the science of it, but a female nurse told me that it’s true. That the water we drink makes us highly potent and makes us the men sexually active. I don’t know the science of it but this was what somebody told me and I am tempted to believe in it”.

However, Peter Ayimbisa was of the view that it will be irresponsible to say because the water makes the people fertile and sexually active, teenagers need to indulge in the act and get pregnant.

To him, the onus lies on the government and all stakeholders to work together to help arrest the menace.

“We are not the only sexually active people in this region- let us restrain ourselves,” adding that “It’s a multifaceted matter and the approaches cannot be one way to solving the problem. The parents have a role to play. The community has a role to play; guidance by teachers for the teenager who are in school, and we as a government- the local assembly has a role to play”.
