Terrorists’ threat: We’re on top of situation – National Security

Deputy National Security Coordinator, Mr. Edward Kweku Asomani has assured the general public the security services of the country are alert and prepared to handle any terrorist attack that may threaten the country.

His assurance comes after reports of potential attacks by extremist elements targeted at Ghana.

The National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, issued a Press Statement drawing the public’s attention to growing threats of terrorism in the sub-region and urged people to be vigilant and extra careful.

The Statement said similar attacks have occurred in neighbouring countries like Togo, La Cote D’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, and therefore important to recognise Ghana remains a target.

The Statement called for heightened vigilance in areas of mass gathering like churches, mosques and places of entertainment.

It urged managers of public places and areas of mass gathering to light up those areas and adopt the use of guards and security gadgets.

Following the Press Release, the Deputy National Security Coordinator says the security services of the country are on high alert for these threats and are prepared to deal with them.

Taking his turn at the Meet the Press series at the Ministry of Information on Sunday, May 23, 2022, Mr. Asomani indicated that while personal security and looking out for each other remains very necessary, the country’s security agencies have readied themselves to flush out terrorists who may come to the country.

The security and intelligence agencies of the country, he said, have monitored the activities of these terrorists over the years and are prepared to deal with them should they move to the country.

He called on the public to remain calm but be security conscious.

He reiterated the need to volunteer information to the security agencies about suspicious activities in the communities.
