THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE

Scripture Reading: 1 John 2

And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. 1 John 2:25

A person can exist, be sustained, and not have eternal life. Eternal life is not inherited from our parents; neither can the church or pastor give you eternal life. It is the life that only God gives. Here are some properties of eternal life:

• Salvation from sin. As nice as our parents are, they cannot save us from sin; only God has the power to save us from our sins. God knew the power that sin had over humanity. He saw all the futile efforts we made to free ourselves from sin and its eternal consequences. In the end, God had to come to us to deliver us from sin and damnation. He did that for us when He became human through Christ Jesus.

And

• Redemption from satanic control. I’m When we say that a person has eternal life it means that Satan does not control the person any longer. The person has been delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. They have been set free from bondage to the devil to freedom in Christ Jesus. For a person to have eternal life they must experience redemption from satanic control.

• The power to live righteously. When we receive eternal life, God gives us the ability to behave rightly, purely, and in a holy way. It is the life of Christ.

• Deliverance from eternal punishment. Remember that after life here on earth, there is life beyond, and not everybody enjoys a pleasant afterlife. The Bible says that there would be a resurrection, some to life and some to destruction. However eternal life guarantees us an escape from eternal punishment.

The good news is that Eternal Life is offered freely to us. All we need to do is trust in Christ as our Saviour and receive all that He did for us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of salvation from you. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
