THE PROMISE OF HEALING

Scripture Reading: Exodus 15:22-27And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

(Exodus 15:26). This is one of the promises God made to Israel after He had made the bitter waters sweet at Marah. After going for three days without water, the children of Israel came to a place that had water. Unfortunately, the water was not good for drinking, so the people started complaining.

Moses called on the Lord and the Lord instructed him to put a tree in the water to change its nature. From that experience, the Lord showed them that He could change their circumstances if they trusted Him. He revealed Himself to them as ‘Jehovah Rapha’ – the Lord who heals.

God promised healing because He is a healer. It is God’s nature to heal. As Israel trekked through the wilderness, the Lord kept their feet from getting swollen. They ate a simple meal of manna, but the Lord kept them in good health. As long as Israel did what was right in the sight of the Lord, they enjoyed divine health.

One of the prominent marks of Jesus’ earthly ministry was healing. He healed countless people from all manner of sicknesses. Jesus healed the sick because God is a healer.

To further affirm His promise of healing to us, Jesus took on our infirmities. This was accomplished when He was whipped by the Roman soldiers. Because of the ordeal He willingly suffered, we can now say – “by His stripes, we are healed”.

In the New Testament, God heals us because Christ took our pain and infirmities on Himself. He suffered our sicknesses and diseases so that we can have His health. Be assured that there is healing in Christ Jesus today.

As the Lord made the bitter waters of Marah sweet, so will He make our bodies well. He is still the Lord our Healer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your promise of healing. I receive total healing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
