THE WICKED ARE BOASTFUL

Scripture Reading: Psalm 10

For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the LORD. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. Psalm 10:3–4

The Psalmist tells us the reason why he felt God was afar off and not concerned about what he was going through. He felt that way because of the way he saw wicked people behaving around him. These were individuals that had taken it upon themselves to oppose and frustrate him. And we can find such people in our own lives; those that do not seek our best interests.

The Psalmist goes on to mention some traits peculiar to the wicked.

· The wicked are boastful. One of the marks of evil people is their arrogance. They boast that they can get all they want without God. They talk loudly and throw their weight about in pride and self-confidence.

· The wicked promote evil. “He blesses the greedy.” The wicked partner with like-minded people to perpetuate their wicked schemes. Their aim is to destroy the righteous and, to do so, they seek alliances to strengthen their efforts.

· The wicked are godless. They do not factor God in what they do. They disregard the reality of judgment by a righteous God for all actions under the sun. Men are not free to do whatever they want without consequences. There are repercussions for every act of wickedness.

God’s people become weary in faith if they focus all their attention on what evil people are doing. Because the wicked seem to flourish in their acts with no apparent justice or divine intervention, the righteous wonder when God will arise and bring an end to their reign.

Instead of getting obsessed with the ways of the wicked, we must get obsessed with the ways of our God. We must open our hearts to the voice of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to inspire a strong assurance in us that God rules in the affairs of men. Let us put our trust in the Lord.

If evil all around you seems to go unpunished, know that it is only for a season. God will intervene in His own time.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the one who avenges the righteous. Let your voice rise above the boasts of the wicked. In Jesus’ name, Amen
