Two individuals are battling for their lives at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital in Somanya after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery attack at the Gaso fuel station on Monday.
Four armed men, including a woman, attacked the fuel station at Ogome, a suburb which is a busy area in the municipality just about 200 meters away from the SP GAS station where a robbery incident happened two weeks ago.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men who carried out their operation within eight minutes made away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the pump attendants and later took away GH¢28,000 cash from a mobile money vendor close to the fuel station on their way out.
The robbers fleeing the fuel station fired several rounds of ammunition, which injured a pump attendant. The robbers in an attempt to ward off residents, fired several rounds indiscriminately injuring two other people in the process.
One of the victims who was rushed to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital is said to be in critical condition while the other has been stabilised by medical professionals at the facility.
The other victim who also sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Somanya Poly Clinic has since been treated and discharged.
This latest robbery which happens to be the second in less than two weeks is casting doubt in the minds of residents in the Yilo Krobo Municipality with regard to their safety and security, as the residents believe the local police lacks the necessary logistics to carry out effective day and night patrols.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Eric Tetteh who confirmed the incident to Citi News disclosed that the Municipal Security Council will conduct an emergency meeting with the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Twumasi Ankra on the possible way forward.
