Valley View University Honours Ghana’s First Female Chief of Staff with Doctor of Science Degree

The Valley View University has conferred an honorary Doctorate Degree on the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare for her distinctive achievements and incomparable contributions to the Socio-Economic development of Ghana.

As the first female Chief of Staff of Ghana, Frema Osei-Opare is known for her outstanding contribution to rural development and gender equality both in Ghana and beyond.

She remains a global icon with deep affection for social protection interventions and skill development in vulnerable communities.

You have worked as a lecturer /Consultant at Yambio Institute of Agriculture in Sudan,You also worked as Development ProjectNigeria FAO/UN, You were also a Consultant on the Women in Fisheriers:FAO/UN project in Uganda,Ethiopia,Congo Brazzaville,Kenya and Namibia.

Again, you were the Consultant for Income Generation: FAO/UNDP Programming Mission for the fifth Country programme for Malawi.

You also became the Programme Officer SNV-Netherlands Development Organisation in Ghana and later elevated to the position of Senior Programme Cordinator and later Acting Field Director of SNV-Netherlands Development Organisation Ghana before your appointment as Country Director of Action Aid Ghana AND International Advisor for Action Aid Africa.

In the year 2004,you entered active politics and contested the New Patriotic Party primaries at Ayawaso West Wongon constituency and emerged victorious.

You won the general election and consequently became the member of parliament for Ayawaso West Wongon constituency from 2005 to 2009 and from 2009 to 2013.

You were also appointed a Deputy Minister for Manpower and Social Welfare now the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in 2005 to 2009 under former President Kufuor’s government.

In recognition of your accomplishments, President Nana Akufo-Addo upon assumption of the high office as President of Ghana in 2017 appointed you as the first Female Chief of Staff in Ghana’s history and re-appointed you in 2021 for your hard work and dedication to duty.

“On the basis of these achievements and contributions that you, your honour, had made to the development of Ghana and the general progress of humanity, Valley View University hereby acknowledges these achievements and hereby confer on you the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honours Causa) this day, Friday, July 7, 2023,” part of the citation read.

As Ghana’s premier private tertiary institution, Valley View University was optimistic that, the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate on Frema Osei-Opare will encourage her to continuously pursue excellence in public service with integrity.

The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings were also honoured at the university’s first special congregation.

The awardees were selected for their selfless dedication to the cause of humanity and society, having provided the needed leadership and also distinguishing themselves in their respective fields of endeavour.
