Bawumia’s “Best Christmas Gift” as girl 4, he sponsored walks again

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is celebrating the remarkable recovery of a four-year-old girl, Priscilla, a young leper whose life was transformed after being sponsored to undergo treatment in Italy.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia shared his joy after Priscilla, who now walks with a prosthetic leg, visited him at his residence in Cantonments, Accra, to express her gratitude.

“I got my best Christmas gift yesterday when Priscilla, a four-year-old cured leper from the Weija leprosarium whom I sponsored for medical treatment of her amputated leg in Italy returned to Ghana and paid me a visit at home to thank me and show that she can now walk with her new leg,” Dr Bawumia wrote.

Dr Bawumia described the visit by Priscilla as the “best Christmas gift” and he embraced her with wide arms and lifted her up with joy and ecstasy.

Priscilla was abandoned by her parents due to her condition and was under the care of Reverend Father Andrew Campbell at the Weija Leprosarium in the national capital, Accra.

After struggling with severed leg for months, Priscilla underwent surgery in Ghana before Dr Bawumia sponsored her travelling and treatments in Italy for life-changing experience to enable her to walk again.

Dr. Bawumia, a Patron of the Lepers Aid Ghana, had an encounter with young Priscilla during his visits to the Weija Leprosarium to give donations and fraternise with the inmates.

Therefore, he took special interest in Priscilla and decided to sponsor her medical treatment, thus highlighting Dr Bawumia’s compassion for the vulnerable in society.

With the help of medical support, Priscilla spent five months in recovery after the surgery, and now, she could walk again, bringing immense joy to those who supported her.

Dr. Bawumia was overjoyed by Priscilla’s recovery and captured it in these words: “To God be the glory”.
