Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress caucus (NDC) who retained their tickets in the party’s recent parliamentary primaries have paid props to former President John Dramani Mahama on his victory.
The former President won his presidential bid to lead the party in the 2024 presidential polling 297,603 (98.9) of total votes cast.
The victorious MPs, burbling with renewed confidence after the gruelling contests they just pulled through believe the former President has the trump card to upstage the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections next year.
Former Minority leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, who led with the exultation declared Mr Mahama the NDC’s chosen one.

Prior to the presidential primary, he made a strong case for Mahama to be overwhelmingly endorsed to lead the NDC in the 2024 general elections.
He said, “Probably without prejudice to the voting rights of delegates, it may appear unanimous in the constituency in the choice of the flagbearer.”
“You know the chosen one. It is his time. It is his time to end Nana Akufo-Addo’s governance and end the sufferings of Ghanaians.”
Member of Parliament for Builsa South who also won his parliamentary primary congratulated the NDC for reaffirming John Mahama ‘the truthful One as the party’s flagbearer for Election 2024.
According to him, with hard work, dedication and unity of purpose it won’t matter whether the NPP presents the Lying One Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or any other.
He said, “The Truthful One will lead us to build the Ghana we want. The man to rescue and fix our nation is JM.”
“Under the leadership of JM Ghana will recover and thrive again. It’s not about JM and NDC, it’s about Ghana, let’s rally!”
Asawase MP and former Minority Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak polled 1,063 of the total valid votes cast while his main contender trailed with 735 votes.
After his convincing victory, Mr Muntaka expressed gratitude to delegates for retaining him and assured them of his dedication to continue working in their interest.
Earlier the fifth-term MP was confident of beating his fierce contender, Masawudu Mubarick, despite calls for him to retire and allow a new candidate to take over the constituency.
He said, “When Nana Akufo-Addo came and said we should change what we are seeing, between 2016 and now, has it been better, or it has been worse? I don’t think that person [my contender] knows what he is saying.”
“I have been a distinguished parliamentarian; I have distinguished myself in the Ashanti Region, in Kumasi, and within the NDC. What do you want to change to, from better to worse? I know that I have diligently served my party, I have served my constituency and I know that by the grace of Allah, they will reward me this evening.”
In Ningo Prampram, MP Sam Nartey George also won his bid to defend his Parliamentary seat in the 2024 general election.
Speaking after his victory, Sam George attributed his victory to Jesus for being the source of his strength and his family for their support.
He said, “Resounding victory. This is going to be one of the best elections I’ve had.”
He assured the delegates that he will go the extra mile to work for them on the floor of parliament.
“I can only make you one promise, the delegates and people of Ningo Prampram, Sam George will work even harder in the next parliament,” he said.
Ashaiman MP Ernest Norgbey who also retained his ticket to contest the Parliamentary seat in the general elections acknowledged the challenges he faced.
According to him, despite the challenges, he was optimistic that he would secure over 70% of the votes, stating that the delegates had faith in his ability to deliver the much-needed development projects to the constituency.
