‘It’s been wonderful to see Ghana’s democracy in action’ – US Ambassador to Ghana

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer has commended key stakeholders in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to her, the security officers and election officials have done a yeoman’s job.

“I’m impressed with the conduct of the security officers, the poll officers. And in the lead up to the election I am deeply impressed with the level of planning of everything,” she said in an interview with 3news on December 7.

“I was glad that things have been peaceful. It’s been wonderful to see Ghana’s democracy in action,” she added.

Virginia Palmer urged any candidate or party that may have issues with the outcome of the election to seek redress in court.

“Democratic institutions like the Electoral Commission and the courts are incredibly important. And I hope that if there are any candidates or parties that have concerns about the elections, they will use the courts to address them,’ she urged.

She was however saddened that two deaths have been recorded in relation to the elections, “And so I was very sorry to hear that someone was killed.”
