The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has condemned what it describes as insensitive comments by Madam Freda Prempeh, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, regarding the recent man-made flood disaster in the Lower Volta Region.
The NDC expressed their outrage at the Minister’s remarks, calling for her to issue a formal apology to the flood victims and their families.
Mawutor Agbavitor, NDC Volta Regional Chairman, criticized the Minister’s lack of empathy and understanding during this crisis.
“It is imperative that our government officials exhibit the highest levels of empathy and responsibility in such times of crisis.”
“Instead, the Minister has chosen to unfairly point fingers at those who are already enduring immense hardship.”
This moment, according to the Volta NDC, calls for unity, compassion, and constructive actions to help the affected communities recover.
They called on the government to provide immediate relief, assistance, and resources to aid the victims.
Agbavitor further emphasized the NDC’s commitment to holding the government accountable, saying, “We stand in solidarity with the flood victims and their communities, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that they receive the support and aid they so desperately need.”
The NDC also warned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government that they would be held accountable, demanding full compensation for the flood victims.
The party stated their intent to advocate for the welfare of all citizens, irrespective of their political inclinations.
The controversy arose following the Minister’s remarks at a recent Ghana Water Company Limited event. The NDC criticized her for echoing what they described as the President’s ‘unfortunate utterances’ during his visit to the affected areas.
