The Volta Renaissance Forum (VRF) has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to ensure equitable representation of the Volta Region in the incoming administration.
The people of the Volta Region, according to the Forum, have unswervingly kept faith with the NDC over the years and have emphatically demonstrated the same by giving the NDC 90.11% of the presidential votes.
The forum acknowledged the efforts of Voltarians in the diaspora, stressing their contributions to the party’s successes in key regions such as Ashanti and Greater Accra.
In a press statement signed by Conqueror Mawudzo Korto, spokesperson for the VRF the forum commended the NDC for its decisive victory in the December 7, 2024, general elections.
As lobbying for government positions intensifies, the VRF urged NDC leadership and the president-elect to prioritize individuals who genuinely represent the aspirations of the Volta Region.
The statement outlined key criteria for appointing representatives from the region, including:
1. Ensuring fairness and equitable representation.
2. Selecting individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the party and the region.
3. Prioritizing candidates with firsthand understanding of the region’s developmental challenges.
4. Avoiding the appointment of individuals who engage with the region only when it serves their personal interests.
The Forum warned it will not hesitate to resist any attempt to foist persons whose relationship with the region cannot be ascertained and who cannot represent the dreams and aspirations of our people,
The VRF also expressed frustrations over the lack of significant development in the Volta Region despite its unwavering support for the NDC. The statement emphasized the need for targeted developmental efforts to address longstanding challenges.
“It is painful and demanding when the NPP always tries to accuse the people of the Volta Region of supporting the NDC, even in the absence of any meaningful development projects,” Korto lamented.
He called on Voltarians, both home and abroad, to remain vigilant and united in advocating for the region’s development under the incoming government.
“We are confident the leadership of the party and the President-Elect, H.E John Dramani Mahama, will reason with us and listen to our call to keep the trust and hope that the region continues to have in the NDC,” Korto stressed.
The Forum urged for unity and collaboration to realize the Volta Region’s long-awaited growth and development.
