WALKING IN THE LIGHT

Scripture Reading: 1 John 1

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

What does God want me to do? What life does God want me to live? Perhaps every Christian has asked themselves this question at some point.

Christians do sin, but this does not mean they must be saved all over again. Sin in the believer’s life breaks our fellowship with God but it does not destroy our relationship with Him. A true Christian is always accepted as a child of God, even if he or she does things that are not acceptable. The Christian who walks in the light is open and responsive to the light of God.

What happens when Christians walk in the light?

1.It enriches our relationship with Christ Jesus. When Christians live in the light where God is, they experience intimacy with God. That is, they have fellowship with Him, and He has fellowship with them. The closer our walk with the Lord, the more we experience the sufficiency of His grace in all areas of our lives.

2.It deepens our fellowship with other believers. Having fellowship with one another is a sure result of the connection we have with God. Believers who are committed to walking in God’s light enjoy deep harmony with other believers who share the same commitment. Sadly, sometimes, some commit to walking in the light within a Christian group while others do not make such a commitment. This imbalance limits the depth of the fellowship the Lord wants us to share as Christians.

3.The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Walking in fellowship with the Lord avails us to the continuous cleansing of the blood of Jesus. This ensures that sin does not take root in our lives. So long as there is an openness to the light of divine truth, Christians’ failures are under the cleansing power of the shed blood of Christ. A Christian in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ experiences continuous forgiveness of sins.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the Light; help me to walk in the fullness of your light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
