Wards of cocoa farmers to enjoy free tertiary education if I win power – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured cocoa farmers in the country that their wards will enjoy free tertiary education if he’s elected as President in the upcoming December polls.

The NPP flagbearer announced the policy during a Farmers’ Day celebration at Jacobu, emphasizing the essential role cocoa farmers play in the nation’s economy.

Dr Bawumia explained that the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on cocoa-farming families while creating opportunities for economic advancement through education.

“Previously, COCOBOD provided scholarships to help cover secondary school costs for the wards of cocoa farmers. However, with the Free SHS policy now covering secondary education, the government has decided to reallocate these funds toward financing tertiary education instead”, he stated.

“COCOBOD is set to roll out this new scholarship scheme for cocoa farmers’ children in tertiary institutions starting next year”, he added.

This new scholarship scheme, set to be managed by COCOBOD, will begin next year and will cover tuition and other associated expenses, enabling cocoa farmers’ children to pursue higher education without financial barriers.

In addition to this educational support, Dr Bawumia reiterated his dedication to agricultural advancement by pledging the establishment of District Agricultural Mechanisation Centres. These centres will offer farmers affordable access to modern equipment to enhance productivity and modernize farming practices.
