We earned GHS15k from gate proceeds in last two games – Kotoko manager

Asante Kotoko Brands and Communications Manager, David Obeng Nyarko, says his team is a major victim of the rampant issue of poor attendance at stadia during match days, with the team only gaining about GHS15,000 in their last two home matches.

The issue which has been an emphatic feature of Ghana football in recent times has seen a number of stakeholders lament about its effects on Ghanaian clubs and to a larger extent, the future of Ghana football.

David Obeng Nyarko who represents the Porcupines has added his voice to the conversation citing that, the negative effects of the issue are costing the club massively. According to him, the team’s share of proceeds these days can only take care of a trivial amount of their expenses.

“Kotoko Earned GHS 15,000 in our last two GPL games. The effect of poor attendance on Kotoko is very huge, in the last two games we played, we earned GHS 15,000 after deductions.

“Our wage bill currently is over 300,000gh monthly, yet supporters want us to retain players even though they are refusing to come to the stadium,” he lamented on Akoma FM in Kumasi.

He pleaded with the fans to embrace the local game once more and storm the various stadia again as it is the way players can get motivated and deliver effortlessly.

“We need our fans in their numbers so we can meet all their demands. All their grievances can be answered at the stadium. Players get disappointed when they see an empty stadium during a warmup,” he pleaded.
