WHEN THE LORD ORDERS YOUR STEPS

Scripture Reading: Genesis 12

Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. (Genesis 12:5)

When Abraham got to Canaan, he did not know that it was the land that God wanted to give him. He and the people were simply moving at God’s command and trusting Him to bring them to the land He wanted to provide for them.

  1. When we obey God, He guides us. Every act of obedience to God positions us in the will of God. When we do what God has asked us to do, He leads us in the way we should go. Because Abraham was in the will of God, every step he took led him in the right direction.
  2. God’s guidance is not always apparent. The Lord usually leads us in the natural course of events. He does not have to do something spectacular to guide us on our journey. Abraham’s journey took him to Canaan without him knowing the significance of Canaan to the mission God had called him to. You can be in the place God wants you to be without you knowing you’re there.
  3. God leads us one step at a time and one day at a time. Abraham got to Canaan by waking up every morning and moving. He did not have a clear idea of where he was headed, yet the Lord was with him. There is a place for having a vision and setting goals in life. Each one of us must live our lives with a sense of purpose and direction. However, there are times when the Lord takes us to places we had not planned to go. He can give us what we did not ask for and bless us with what we did not pray for.

Abraham just obeyed the Lord, and the Lord ordered his steps. As the Lord did for Abraham, so will He do for you if you follow Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are my guide and leader. Order my steps to the place You want me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
