Minority Alexander Afenyo-Markin has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their failure to marshal their super majority to conduct business in Parliament.
The Effutu MP questioned the absence of several NDC MPs, emphasizing that the Majority caucus claiming a “super-majority” after the 2024 election is struggling to meet the required numbers for parliamentary business.
“You claim you are a majority. Now you don’t even have quorum. Count if you even have quorum for proceedings. You don’t have,” Afenyo-Markin said, pointing to the visibly low numbers on the Majority side.
According to him, the Majority caucus is observed with talking law and boasting to have 187 members and yet cannot marshal that number into the Chamber to conduct government business.
According to him, in the interest of good governance, the Minority side will cooperate with the Majority caucus to conduct business.
“Today, you are asking for mercy. We are in Ramadan, so we will grant you no mercy,” he added sarcastically.
Afenyo-Markin urged the Deputy Majority chief whip Richard Acheampong to take responsibility for ensuring their members are present in the House.
“You must bring your members in. Your so-called super-majority. Bring them,” he stressed.
