‘A not-for-profit Christian organization, “Woman in the Mirror” moved to the rescue of patients of the Akawe Hospital in the Ga West Municipal Assembly (Weija) on Friday when it paid the hospital bills of needy and underprivileged persons at the facility.
The initiative dubbed ‘’Heart to Hand’’ was inaugurated in 2021 with the ‘’Operation Time to Smile’’ where over 500 food packages were distributed on the streets to the underprivileged on Christmas day 25th December, 2022 from the Accra Mall through to Lapaz and Nyamekye all suburbs of Accra.
Mrs. Doris Delong, Founder and Leader of the organization said this year’s initiative was to place special focus on the underprivileged and needy patients who were unable to settle their hospital bills.
Some patients who were discharged but couldn’t go home because of unsettled bills were happy and grateful for the generosity of the team as they could now leave and join their families.
The team targeted patients from the Obstetric and Gynaecological Emergencies, Surgical Medical and the Paediatric Emergency unit.
‘’Inasmuch as we encourage people through the word of God, we also want to share the tangibles of God’s grace not only through words but by directly touching lives’’ Mrs. Delong said.
Woman in the Mirror, Mrs Delong noted, has received some level of partnership with individuals who believe in the project and are willing to positively impact lives in society.
The organization, has since its inception in 2019, provided free vocational training and assistance to about ten individuals in the areas of hairdressing and dress making.
Explaining further, Mrs. Delong indicated that these persons have become useful to themselves and their families adding that “They initially had no hope but we stepped in to assist and we at ‘’Woman in the Mirror’’, wish to do more in the coming years through the support and prayers of our partners’’.
‘’’Woman in the Mirror wishes to partner individuals and corporate organizations to be able to give more assistance to needy people. It aims to have its own vocational and training centre in the future to provide free training for the underprivileged in society.
