X users roast Gabby Otchere-Darko over anti-LGBTQ bill comment

Netizens have descended on Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Senior Partner & Co-founder of Africa Legal Associates, for a post on X about the anti-LGBTQ bill recently passed by Ghana’s Parliament.

The passage of the Bill last week sparked widespread debate both within the country and internationally and Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, addressed the development, emphasizing its democratic nature and the significant popular support it enjoys among Ghanaians.

He underscored the societal pressure on parliamentarians, which might have contributed to a culture of silence on LGBTQ rights in the legislative body.

Despite the overwhelming support for the bill, Asare Otchere-Darko urged the media and politicians to educate the public on both the advantages and potential consequences of the new legislation.

He stressed the importance of understanding that choices have consequences and urged opponents of the bill to seek legal recourse in Court.

His post, however, incurred the chagrin of some X users who took to the comment section to fire the former Danquah Institute boss.

@kmotokobi wrote: Well said, Gabby. Sovereignty is very important to society. Yes, the people’s representatives have spoken the minds of those who sent them to parliament. Now, the ball is right in the court of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo. He shouldn’t disappoint Ghanaians.

@Ghanabeans said; Anytime someone says something and adds ‘we can add diversity and be inclusive’ I know it’s a tactic being drawn. If there were no examples to learn from, there wouldn’t be a problem, but there are nations that are paying high costs for this LGBT and we can’t afford to be like them

@kniibi_nii44 also wrote; I’m highly disappointed in someone like you. How on earth do you want us to accept what even the Westerners don’t accept? Does the white accept polygamy? Has any country in Africa imposed any value on any Western country? Pls, let us be, this is Ghana and this is who we are. Thk u

One user was sympathetic to Gabby’s post though as we see here in this post by @odoom_ekow who wrote; People just insult because it’s Gabby that has posted something without digesting what he wrote. In any ways, it’s not force to read nor comment. Why all these tantrums without looking at exactly what he wrote.
