Delegates who converged to listen to flagbearer hopeful, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen have described his message as uninspiring as it contains no policies convincing enough to let them vote for him to lead the New Patriotic Party into the 2023 elections.
The former Trade and Industry Minister, on Tuesday met a cluster of delegates from the Ayawaso East, North and Central constituencies where he addressed them and urged them to support his bid.
Amongst other messages he had for them, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized that he has what it takes to lead the NPP to break the 8 and that he is the next in line after Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the NPP. He could not do away with the ‘Aduru Me So’ mantra, as he believes that would sway delegates to vote for him.
He also stressed that if given the nod to lead the party as its flagbearer, he will see to it that every polling station executive gets paid at the end of every month.
However, his messages did not go down well with the delegates as some expressed shock at the unimpressive and uninspiring nature of his speech and messages.
A delegate who spoke after the meeting had this to say;
‘’Alan’s proposal to pay party executives is not a bad idea but we are doing politics here, you understand. It would be he is just saying it for us to vote for him. To me, it doesn’t move me because he has been in the party for a very long time. If he had this ambition, he’d have said it long time and today coming to meet us the delegates, telling us that when you get the nod, you are going to pay polling station executives, to me, I don’t believe it’’ he stated.
When asked how he received Alan’s message, he stated this;
‘’In fact, I have a lot of respect for Chief Alan but today, he has really surprised me. The Alan Cash we used to hear his name during our time and listening to him today, brother, I am really shocked because the message, it doesn’t move me’’.
Several other delegates interviewed mere very much discontent with the monotonous ‘Aduru Me So’ mantra as they believe that is not good enough to win the NPP power.
‘’We expected to hear about policies which are realistic for we the delegates. We were waiting to hear something that gives hope and confidence to us, but we did not hear any such thing. He did not convince us, that is my conclusion’’ another delegate stated.
‘’I am disappointed with his message. We cannot break the 8 with such messages. Nothing he said can convince me to vote for Alan Kyerematen’’ a woman delegate said.
Mr. Kyerematen has begun his Greater Accra tour to interact with party delegates across the various constituencies in clusters. His tour in the region continues tomorrow.
