President of the Shama Traditional Area, Nana Kwamina Wienu II, says President Akufo-Addo, since he assumed office, has dedicated himself to the cause of building a prosperous country for all Ghanaians.
The traditional leader made the observation when he led other chiefs and elders of the Shama Traditional Area to pay a courtesy call on ,President Akufo-Addo, at the Jubilee House yesterday
“President Akufo-Addo is Building a prosperous country and he has brought joy to the poor in the country. His government has offered free electricity and free water and that alone is more than enough. Myself together with my delegation wish to register our sincere appreciation to the President for his dedication to the cause of the country” Nana Kwamina Wienu II said.
“We offer prayers to God to repeat the help He gave him which propelled him to win the 2016 elections in order to make him win the 2020 elections to continue with his good work all over the country” the Shama Traditional leader added.
Among others, Nana Kwamina Wienu II, made several requests of the President including the construction of hospitals, roads and schools in the Shama area for the benefit of his people. He expressed confidence in the fact that President Akufo-Addo being a President who keeps his promises, his request will all be granted.
President Akufo-Addo in his remarks to the Shama Traditional leader and his delegation said all the issues they have brought before him on the payment of compensation for lands acquired by the Ghana Gas Company, and the Free Zones Board, will all be addressed by his administration within the shortest possible time.
The Shama District is one of the eighteen (18) districts in the Western Region of Ghana. Its capital is Shama. The district is among the new districts and municipalities created in 2008 by the then President, John Agyekum Kufuor. It was inaugurated on 29 February 2008.
Shama district has a population of about 88,314 people and shares a border with the Gulf of Guinea. It has 42% of the active labor force of the population involved in fishing and farming. It also houses Fort San Sebastian, one of the former slaves fort in Ghana where slaves from all over Africa were kept before they were sent to the New World in the 1600s.
Pra Nye-Eyi Afahye, the festival of the people of Shama Traditional Area, is celebrated in every second week of November. It is a weeklong event and usually commences on Saturday and ends on Sunday of the following week.
