Renowned stand-up comedian Kweku Sintim Missah (KSM) has expressed his concerns over the potential ramifications of the newly passed anti-LGBTQ+ bill on act ‘Afia Sereboe.’
KSM’s character, Afia Sereboe, has been a pivotal figure in Ghanaian comedy, using satire and humour to address critical societal issues, mirroring the role of characters like Madea in American comedy.
With Parliament’s recent passage of the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which awaits presidential assent to become law, KSM has voiced his concerns regarding the safety and legality of Afia Sereboe.
The bill, officially named the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2021 has sparked a wide range of reactions both domestically and internationally.
KSM took to X (formerly Twitter) to enquire about the fate of Afia Sereboe should President Akufo-Addo assent to the Bill.
He wrote, “If the LTGBQ Law is passed, will AFIA SIRIBOE be arrested? Just checking?
It, however, appears Afia Sereboe will be just fine because many Ghanaians took to the comment section to give KSM that assurance.

@bruce_emmanuel said, ‘Afia Serebour is a special case. Can be likened to featuring a character of an armed robber in your movie.
Afia Serebour doesn’t promote any LGBTQI+ nonsense.Afia Serebour is cleared for take off! 🛫
Of course, few users believe otherwise as @akoobooks argues, ‘The absurdity of it all! From some of the previous comments, I don’t think people get it- they think, KSM you’re safe. The reality is the relevant clauses in the law could actually put even you KSM at risk!😩
