Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill: Religious and traditional leaders storm Parliament for the debate

Several religious and traditional leaders across the country descended on Parliament on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, for debate on the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.

The Bill was finally taken through the second reading on Wednesday after some delays that made the promoters very anxious.

Speaker of the House, Alban S.K. Bagbin who acknowledged the presence of these important stakeholders of the Bill and indicated how important it is to Ghanaians.

The current legislative framework of the country, he said, does not make adequate provisions to cover every segment of society and assured that passage of the bill will address the lacuna in the legal framework.

The Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has held nine stakeholder engagements or public hearings since the Bill was presented to the House.

A sponsor of the Bill and MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah moved a motion for the second reading.

Chairman of the committee and MP for Asante Akim Central, Kwame Anyimedu-Antwi presented the report.
