Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Tema East constituency, has for the second time, won the parliamentary election, retaining the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Odamtten won with a difference of 14,163, polling a total of 37,231 out of 60,717 votes cast.
His only contender, Mr Yohane Amarh Ashitey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, received 23,081votes.
Addressing the media after being declared the MP-elect, Mr Odamtten promised to deliver on his campaign promises to ensure that the unemployed youth in the area get work to do through the 24-hour economy policy of the NDC.
According to him, he would set the table rolling to help make the Tema shine agenda come through by continuing with the already rolled-up apprenticeship programmes, the back-to-school programme, and other ones to be implemented.
He commended the efforts of the security, the media, and the Electoral Commission officers for ensuring order throughout the process, making Ghana maintain its peace.
Meanwhile, jubilation broke out in the constituency following the declaration, with the MP going on a victory parade across the constituency, which is made up of communities in Tema Community One and Tema Manhean.
Mr Manuel Lartey, a first-time voter in the euphoria of the jubilation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he was hoping the MP would fulfil the promises he made during his campaign.
Another excited constituent, who gave her name as Grace, stated that she had confidence in the MP because he performed well in his first time.
She noted that he cared about the education and welfare of the youth in the constituency, expressing the hope that he continues with the several projects he had already implemented.
