Member of Parliament for Atiwa East in the Eastern Region Abena Osei-Asare has been tipped by some political watchers and delegates to emerge victorious.

Osei-Asare who serves under the Akufo-Addo government as a Deputy Finance Minister picked number 1 on the parliamentary primary ballot after she subjected herself to the rigours of vetting on Thursday (4 January).

“It was a day filled with hope and determination”, Osei-Asare said in a Facebook post. “I am happy to announce that following a thorough vetting process and subsequent balloting, I have secured the top spot”.

She continued: “No 1 on the ballot! This represents a testament to our collective aspiration for growth and prosperity in Atiwa East…I look forward to your massive support on the 27th of January 2024”.

A member of her campaign team in a telephone interview with dailymailgh.com is also confident that her boss would be retained.

“I can confirm she has been vetted. And indeed, the battle lines have been drawn. We will embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults and I know the delegates will speak and this time we will record a flawless victory”, the campaign team member stated.

Best candidate

The MP is already receiving some endorsement. Former Eastern Regional Women Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Fati Vondolie, has given her strong endorsement for the re-election of Abena Osei-Asare as the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East in the Eastern Region.

She believes Osei-Asare’s impeccable track record in the constituency makes her the most suitable candidate to retain the seat for the party in the upcoming parliamentary primaries scheduled for January 27, 2024.

Interacting with delegates during an end-of-year meeting on Saturday (23 December), Vondolie, who also serves as the Eastern Regional Coordinator at the Ghana School Feeding Programme, stressed that Osei-Asare’s re-election would contribute to increasing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s votes in the constituency during the general elections in December 2024.

“This is an MP who has resourced the majority of constituents and I can attest to that. The massive infrastructure she has initiated is firming up with some completed and these projects and initiatives are there for people to see. I have been serving this party for decades and I know what I am talking about.

“I have been chastising most of the sitting MPs in the Eastern Region regarding infrastructure and I must say you are blessed to have a visionary MP. As you go to the polls, please be guided. But I daresay that it will be politically suicidal for NPP in Atiwa East if she is not retained,” she noted.

Unmatched records

Osabarima Kwame Okoh the chief of Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region has lauded his Member of Parliament Abena Osei-Asare stating that her record and investment in the area has been unmatched since the creation of the constituency.

He made these remarks when the MP recently made a trip to the community as part of her routine visit to the constituency to interact with the people.

“I am extremely happy and humbled and her achievement is evident for people to see. Many MPs have come and gone but we haven’t witnessed your type since the inception of democracy in the last three decades”, Osabarima said.

“My community is indeed grateful for the numerous interventions you’ve rolled out in our area”, he added.
