The government has refuted assertions made by Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1, the Chief Executive Officer of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, regarding a purported GH¢5 million deposit with the Ghana Police Service.
NAM1, in a statement, claimed that he handed over the amount on October 20, intended for distribution to customers who successfully underwent a verification process, including those entitled to a GH¢2.5 million judgment debt.
However, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame has contradicted NAM1’s statement.
According to him, records show only GH¢2.5 million was received from the Menzegold CEO, not the reported GH¢5 million.
The Attorney General made the disclosure in Parliament on Tuesday during question.
The ongoing trial against Nana Appiah Mensah involves charges of fraud, with aggrieved Menzgold customers seeking the release of their funds since the company ceased operations in 2018 amid accusations of operating a Ponzi scheme.
