The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has officially received a Presidential Charter, elevating it to a fully autonomous university.

The historic milestone was achieved on December 19, 2024, after years of dedication to academic excellence and collaboration with a number of esteemed institutions in the country.

With this new status, the institution has rebranded itself as the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB), reflecting its broadened mission to offer world-class education in communication, media studies, business, and entrepreneurship within a Pan-African context.

In a press statement, the University expressed its gratitude to the institutions that supported its journey, including the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Education Winneba, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, and the Ministry of Education.

“This significant accomplishment aligns with the University’s new name, African University of Communications and Business (AUCB), which embodies its expanded mission to provide world-class education and professional development opportunities,” said Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson, President of AUCB who signed the statement.

Prof. Blankson further emphasized that the new status reaffirms the University’s commitment to equipping students with skills to thrive in an evolving economic and social landscape.

Founded in 2002 by Hon. Kojo Yankah as the African Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC), the institution initially focused on journalism and communication.

It later expanded with the creation of the Sam E. Jonah School of Business in 2010.

According to Prof. Blankson, the presidential charter is not just a win for the University but also a celebration of the vision of its founder and the countless faculty, staff, and students who have contributed to the journey.

As a chartered university, AUCB is expected to lead the way in producing professionals equipped to address the challenges of the modern world, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of education in Africa.
