The Speaker of Parliament has demanded former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu withdraw a claim of a secret meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and apologize unreservedly within seven days.
According to the Office of the Speaker, failure to comply will result in necessary legal action to clear the Speaker’s name.
The Office categorically refuted the claims by Martin Amidu.
In a statement, the Speaker’s Communications Unit labelled the allegations as baseless, unfounded, and part of a deliberate smear campaign against the Speaker.
Despite these attempts to tarnish his reputation, the Speaker remains committed to serving the Ghanaian people with integrity.
The statement emphasized the Speaker’s long-standing record of distinguished and honest public service. His commitment to prioritizing the interests of the Ghanaian people remains unwavering, even in the face of discrediting efforts.
It clarified that the Speaker does not hold a vote in Parliament and does not participate in House decisions, an alignment with the 1992 Constitution that has been affirmed by the Supreme Court of Ghana.
