The Joint Technical Committee for the Reaffirmation of the Land Boundary and Implementation of the ITLOS Ruling on the Maritime Boundaries between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire engaged in a three day GIZ/AUBP and ICMPD funded meeting at Grand Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire .
The meeting was geared towards the implementation of the 2017 ITLOS ruling and the reaffirmation of the common land boundaries between the two countries.
Delivering his address, the Executive Secretary of the National Boundary Commission of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Diakalidia Konate, commended the joint technical committee for the commitment and progress towards the joint management of the common boundaries between the two countries. He further urged the meeting to continue with deliberations peacefully, cordially and collaboratively.
The National Coordinator of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Maj Gen Emmanuel Kotia, also underscored the need to see these exercises to fruition, as they are vital towards the reaffirmation of conflict prone areas such as Dollar Power where urgent attention is needed. Maj. Gen Kotia also stressed the need for the committee to jointly inspect the international maritime boundary line before the end of 2023.
He admonished the Executive Secretary and the Co-Chair of the Committee to make time and join Ghana to jointly submit the African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation, which have been ratified by both countries, by the first week of July.
