Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has firmly denied allegations that Mr. Bugri Naabu, former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), had lobbied for his appointment as IGP.
Furthermore, he disavowed any involvement in a clandestine recording plot with Bugri Naabu.
The leaked tape investigation has garnered significant public attention in recent weeks, particularly since the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee launched its inquiry into the matter.
During his appearance before the Committee on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the IGP vehemently refuted claims that he was part of a conspiracy to secretly record conversations involving three implicated police officers – COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – and Bugri Naabu.
In a resolute statement, the IGP reiterated his unwavering commitment to upholding the law and preserving the integrity of the Ghana Police Service.
He expressed his full cooperation with the ongoing investigation, pledging to provide any necessary information or assistance to uncover the truth behind the leaked tape.
