December 7The Center for Performance Tracking and Outcome Mapping (CePTOM) has issued a clarion call to citizens to prioritize peace, respect, and tolerance in political engagements.
The organization emphasized the need to uphold democratic principles, celebrate diversity in political opinion, and reject violence or intimidation.
In a statement ahead of the December 7 general elections, CePTOM Program Director, Ato Bonful, stressed the essence of democracy as a platform for free expression and respect for individual political choices.
“The beauty of democracy lies in the ability of every individual to express their political will freely and without fear.”
“Where disagreements arise, it should not be grounds for conflict but rather opportunities to demonstrate the maturity and vibrancy of our political system,” the statement read.
CePTOM underscored the role of political differences in enriching Ghana’s democratic journey.
The statement described diversity in opinion as a cornerstone of democracy that should be celebrated rather than condemned.
“Differences in political opinion enrich our democracy and should be celebrated as a testament to Ghana’s democratic prowess,” Bonful added.
The call also extended to political parties, their supporters, and community leaders to take active steps in fostering a peaceful electoral environment.
CePTOM warned against violence, intimidation, or coercion, labeling such actions as threats to the principles of democracy and national unity.
Ghana’s strength, it said, lies in its unity amid diversity, and the collective responsibility is to ensure that this remains intact.
The organization urged leaders and candidates to champion respect and tolerance during this critical period.
“Let us use this period to show the world that Ghana’s democracy is not only robust but also peaceful and inclusive. Together, we can set a remarkable example of civility, tolerance, and harmony,” the statement urged.
As Election Day approaches, CePTOM’s message resonates strongly with calls from other civil society organizations advocating for peaceful democratic participation.
With its rich democratic history, Ghana stands at a crucial moment to reaffirm its commitment to unity and respect for political rights.
CePTOM called on all Ghanaians to ensure that every voice and every choice is protected and respected.
