According to him, the citizens have a key role to play in fostering and safeguarding the unity and peaceful co-existence among the various sectors of the society.

The Okaikwei North MCE made the appeal during the handing over of assorted food items worth thousands of cedis to Traditional Rulers in the Municipality on Wednesday in support of the 2024 Homowo Festival.

“Elections are about contest of ideas not war or causing mayhem in the country; Everyone must play his or her part to ensure the safety of the country before, during and after the elections” Honorable Laryea stressed.

Honorable Laryea explained that the citizenry including Traditional Rulers are key in the Local governance structure of Ghana.

He was sure Ghanaians would retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the December polls stressing that residents in the Municipality have had their share of unparalleled projects including the Achimota District Court, the Achimota Circuit Court and the Okaikwei North Electoral Commission office all built under his tenure as MCE.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Traditional Rulers, Nii Ayibontey Adams II, the Chief of Achimota reiterated the MCE’s call for peaceful elections in December.

While thanking the Management and staff of the Assembly for the gesture, he urged the youth to be vigilant and not be used by politicians to foment trouble.

The Assembly has since 2018 been supporting the celebration of the annual Homowo festival with drinks and other assorted items.

This year, the three paramouncies received bags of maize, packs of water, crates of drinks, gallons of palm oil, palm fruits and an undisclosed amount of money.

Others Present at the event were Mr. Francis Mensah, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Georgina Akambasi, the Head of Culture and Tourism Unit, Nii Boi IV, Abeka Mantse and Nii Akwetey III, Akweteyman Chief.
