The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, eulogising the 266th Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church as a man of extraordinary humility and Christ-like simplicity.
Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope, passed away on Easter Monday, just hours after leading Easter Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square.
The CCG, in a statement signed by Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, General Secretary, highlighted Pope Francis’ remarkable legacy, emphasising his commitment to the marginalised and his tireless efforts to promote peace and ethical leadership.
“His legacy of humility, compassion, and commitment to social justice will continue to inspire people of faith everywhere,” the statement said.
The CCG extended heartfelt condolences to Catholics in Ghana and around the world, offering prayers for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul.
The Council expressed solidarity with the Catholic Church” during this period of mourning” and assured them of their unwavering support.
“We offer our fervent prayers that the risen Lord will receive the soul of Pope Francis into eternal rest,” the statement said.
The CCG also expressed hope that the Catholic Church would soon find a worthy successor to continue the late Pope’s impactful vision and leadership.
The CCG reiterated its commitment to strengthening ecumenical bonds with the Catholic Church, emphasising the shared mission to advance the cause of Christ and promote the well-being of all people.
“Together, let us remain united in our mission to advance the cause of Christ, promote peace, justice, ethical leadership, and the well-being of all people,” the statement said.
