Lectures at the various Colleges of Education will resume work next week after the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) called off its industrial action.
The Colleges are expected to have a relook at their academic calendar and activities that have been disrupted by CETAG’s eight weeks industrial action.
Mr Prince Obeng-Himah, President of CETAG, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the Accra College of Education after the suspension of the strike.
The GNA during its visit observed that lectures were yet to resume a day after the Association called off the strike, with the majority of students and teachers still not on campus.
Mr Obeng-Himah said the members were currently out of station and would be returning at the weekend in preparation for the resumption of academic activities at the Colleges.
Meanwhile, Richmond Agyei, SRC President of the Accra College of Education, said students were in a limbo as to when academic activities would begin at the College.
“As it stands now, we do not know when academic activities would resume. No one has communicated anything to us as students at the College.
“Most of our students are not currently on campus due to the long stay of the strike. Majority of them have gone home since they could not cope with the long absence of academic activities on campus and were waiting to be informed on the resumption of academic activities,” he added.
CETAG called off its strike on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 after the National Council members of the Association voted unanimously to the effect.
The decision to call off the strike followed the Association’s earlier meeting with the office of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on August 15, 2024, at the Jubilee House.
The Association had been on strike since June 14, 2024 over the government’s delay in implementing the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) Arbitral Award Orders and negotiated service conditions.
