Dormaahene, Osagyefo Nana Agyeman Badu, has been barred by the Sunyani High Court from attending the funeral of the late Paramount Chief of Berekum Traditional Area, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II.
The court granted an injunction after Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II of the Berekum Traditional Council filed an action.
According to sources, there were concerns that the presence of the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional, Osagyefo Nana Agyeman Badu, at the funeral, particularly at the same time as the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, could lead to a breach of peace in the area.
The Berekum Traditional Council had planned for the Asantehene to attend the funeral after other dignitaries, including the Dormahene, the President, members of the Bono Regional and National Houses of Chiefs, and other prominent personalities had attended on Wednesday, November 22.
Traditionally, the Asantehene is expected to be the last person to pay respects to a Berekumhene.
This is because the Asantehene has the right to enstool a new chief after the burial.
However, the Dormaahene had intended to attend the funeral at the same time as the Asantehene, which could have led to a conflict between the two traditional leaders.
To prevent any potential chaos, the Berekum Traditional Council sought legal action, and the Sunyani High Court granted the injunction order.
The court has also requested the Ghana Police Service to assist the Berekum Traditional Council in enforcing the order and maintaining peace within Berekum and the surrounding areas.
