President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has stressed the need for Parliaments across the African sub-region to promote democracy and foster economic development.
Delivering an address at the opening ceremony of the CPA Africa Regional Conference in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Mr Maada Bio urged African governments to take advantage of regional legislative Instruments to work towards a common passport, market and a single custom and monetary union.
The 52nd Regional conference and annual general meeting, which is on the theme, “The Role of African Parliaments in Building inclusive society to counter growing insecurity in Africa” is expected to strengthen parliamentary democracy in Africa.
President Maada Bio called on African leaders to put in place appropriate measures for the betterment of all CPA members.
The Acting CPA international chairperson, Ian Liddel-Grainger, reiterated the CPA’s commitment to continue pushing for a change in the legal status of the association.
The speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin is expected to address the conference on Tuesday on the topic the “Role of African Parliaments in accelerating intra-African trade.”
