A special awards ceremony has been held for students, tutors of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), TVET experts and sponsors for their contributions towards the development of the TVET sector.
The awards organized by the Commission for TVET last Friday brought together various players in the TVET industry, academia and others.
Awards were presented to some outstanding students who excelled during the 2021 May/June Certificate II Core Subjects level.
Awards were also presented to the Overall best graduating student for the 2021 May/June certificate II core examination, best graduating student 2021 Core examination, best graduating student 2021 for Elective exams, best Verifier (CBT) General Trade area and the recognition awards to the key stakeholders (development partners), TVET experts and TVET sponsors.
The overall best graduating student award went to James Saakyene Saae of St. John Technical Institute, Nandom in the Upper East region and took home a certificate, a cash prize, a laptop and its bag, a wireless mouse and a Mifi.
Abena Konadu Akwaboah Yiadom of the Kumasi Technical Institute was adjudged the best graduating student for the elective examination (Building and Construction), while Gilbert Lord Gyedu from the Takoradi Technical Institute emerged as the winner in the Mechanical Engineering Technology.
A student from the Wa Technical Institute in the Upper West region, Asana Issah, emerged winner in Mathematics while Priscilla Abeka-Woode of the Cape Coast Technical Institute topped the English language and Wahab Husein from the Asuansi Technical Institute won emerged winner of the Social Studies exams.
Awards were also presented to UNIJAY Company Limited in Kumasi for being a benefactor/sponsor of TVET while Engr. Dr Stephen Turkson was honoured as TVET Expert.
On the part of Development Partners,German Embassy, International Labour Organization (ILO), KFW Development Bank, GIZ, Orange Knowledge Programme (NUFFIC), World University Service of Canada (WUSC), CAMFED, World Bank and ALINEA International were also presented with certificates for their support towards the development of the TVET sector.
The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, in an address read for him, eulogized all the stakeholders for their support towards the development of the TVET sector and urged them to continue with their contribution towards making the sector the powerhouse of industrialization and job creation for the nation.
He explained that the huge financial support being channelled towards TVET institutions in the country attested to the trust the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has in the sector.
Dr Adutwum was upbeat that with the support of all stakeholders the nation stand the chance of receiving huge benefits from the TVET space as it stood the chance of turning the nation’s economy around.
The Director General for the Commission for TVET, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, praised the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his commitment towards revamping the TVET sector which held the key to the nation’s transformation agenda.
He also commended the various stakeholders who have been supporting the sector as he pledged to work with all the stakeholders to ensure that everything possible was done to get the best for the sector.
The Director General appealed to all Ghanaians especially parents to have confidence in the TVET sector which held the magic wand to turn around the nation’s economy if given the needed push by all.
