Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has officially expressed his gratitude to the nation following his replacement on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare thanked God, the people of Ghana, and all stakeholders for their support during his tenure as the country’s top police officer.
Dr. Dampare, who made history as the youngest IGP in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, reflected on his 35-year career in the Ghana Police Service, rising from the rank of General Constable to the highest position in the service.
He described his journey as a privilege and thanked former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him as IGP and current President John Dramani Mahama for their cordial working relationship.
“I am deeply grateful to H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for giving me the opportunity to serve our nation as the Inspector-General of Police and for making history as the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic,”
“I also extend my appreciation to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the cooperation and support during our time working together,” the statement said.
The former IGP also expressed his appreciation to religious and traditional leaders, heads of sister security agencies, civil society organizations, and the international community for their support and collaboration during his tenure.
He stressed the invaluable role of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the rank-and-file officers in maintaining law and order across the country.
“The contribution of the rank and file of the Ghana Police Service to security, law, and order during my tenure has been enormous. I am grateful to every officer for their dedication and commitment,” he said.
Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his commitment to serving Ghana, emphasizing his energy and enthusiasm for contributing to the nation’s development.
“I remain energetic, committed, and enthusiastic about serving my nation with discipline, honour, and integrity,” he declared.
Dr. Dampare’s career in the Ghana Police Service has been nothing short of remarkable. He served as Director-General of almost all departments within the service and held the record of being the youngest Commissioner of Police before becoming IGP.
His tenure was marked by significant reforms and a commitment to professionalism and integrity.
