The Black Stars of Ghana has belabored the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to book a place in the World Cup qualifiers in Group G.
Ghana needed a win to penetrate while South Africa should have avoided lose to book a place in the playoffs.
Andre Ayew made his 100th appearance for the Black Stars with glory to seek Ghana through to the playoffs.
Andre Ayew scored from a penalty spot on the 33rd minute following Daniel Amartey’s scintillating performance to grab the penalty.
Despite conceding, South Africa gave Ghana a tough competition but Ghana also tried to add to the tally but they were unlucky for that and ended with the slim win.
In the second half, it was South Africa who had the chances. Percy Tau had two successive opportunities, first his freekick from range going straight into the keeper’s arms while he also had a shot from the edge of the area saved by the shot stopper.
Despite concerted efforts, Ghana defended with their lives to keep the score and earn a ticket to the next round.
Kamaldeen Sulemana missed a glorious chance while the South African goalstopper was out of his position.
Ghana and South Africa gained the same points of 13 in Group G but the Black Stars were able to accomplish the mission due to goal difference to the group.
Ghana will meet one of these countries, Tunisia, Algeria, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Mali, Nigeria or DR Congo in the playoffs.
