DELIVER US FROM EVIL
Scripture Reading: Matthew 6
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:13
After the Lord has forgiven us of our sins, we must ask Him to help us not to sin again.
God’s leading. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked His disciples to watch and pray so they do not enter into temptation.
• He leads us in the paths of righteousness. God’s perfect will is that we walk the path He has ordained for us – the right path. He helps us to do that by showing us the right path through His word. As we read His word and apply it to our choices, we find ourselves in the center of His will. We should pray that we do not stray from the way of the Lord.
• He leads us on the path of restoration. When we lose our way, the Lord is able to lead us back to Himself and to the right way. He is our restorer. He does not abandon us when we turn away from Him. We must pray that the Lord will restore us to Himself when we fall away from Him.
God’s deliverance. Jesus promised that He will keep those who are His from the destruction of the evil one.
• He delivers us from the destroyer. In His work on the cross, the Lord Jesus destroyed evil principalities and powers. In His resurrection, He dethroned powers that have previously held us captive. In prayer, we should affirm the victory of Christ and stand firm in the liberty He has made available to us.
• He delivers us from evil schemes. Each of us makes choices. Some of the choices we make may seem innocent, but their outcomes could be damaging. We cannot always know the outcomes of every decision we make. However, the Lord knows the end from the beginning. He knows every trap in our path. In our prayer, we should ask the Lord to deliver us from the evil schemes of those who hate us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, lead me in the way I should go. Deliver me from evil schemes set against me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
