In his latest write up, the leading member of the Nana Akuffo-Addo-led government expressed his dissatisfaction towards the continuous cutting down of trees by contractors.

He wrote: “I’ve seen trees being cleared by the contractor to make way for the new road expansion and flyover from Spintex Road to the Boundary Road in East Legon. It saddens me when development is seen as a necessary evil against nature.”

He stated “But, surely, we can look at incorporating tree-planting along the sides of our streets as a design feature on how we build roads – lush trees that do not spread roots like greedy tentacles.”

Mr. Otchere Darko insisted that “Ghana is beautiful and we can rediscover that with a little more care for nature.”

Mr. Otchere Darko’s comments comes days after the country marked the Green Ghana day, another bold step by the Nana Akuffo-Addo government to plant trees to protective the vegetation of the environment.

This year’s edition of the tree planting exercise on the theme, “Mobilizing for a Greener Future”, the government aims at using the Green Ghana Day to plant 20 million trees across the country with a regional target of 1.2 million trees.

The initiative seeks to create an enhanced national awareness of the necessity for collective action towards the afforestation and restoration of degraded landscape in the country, Inculcate in the youth the value of planting and nurturing trees and their associated benefits, enhance livelihoods towards communities through engagement in the production of tree seedlings, and to beautify the environment.
