The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has deployed its District Road Improvement Program (DRIP) equipment into the Electoral Areas in the Municipality,
The successfully deployment of the equipment marks another giant step of the government to improve the road network in the Municipality.
DRIP is an initiative of the Government of Ghana, intended to empower Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) with the tools and resources needed to improve areas with poor and deplorable road networks across the country.
The programme also seeks to address the pressing need for roads maintenance and construction equipment in MMDAs, fostering sustainable improvements that will enhance connectivity and spur economic activities.
By equipping local authorities with these vital resources, the program ensures that road projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
Commissioning the equipment, the Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Boye Laryea stated that the dispatch of the equipment to serve the various communities in the Municipalities reinforces the government’s commitment to deepening local governance in all its facets.
He stated that the bold vision by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would result in improving road quality and connectivity to facilitate better access to essential services and economic activities, hence reducing the challenges of vehicular mobility and reducing maintenance cost of vehicles.
Hon. Laryea indicated that operators have been trained to man the equipment with all the necessary processes in place to ensure that the Municipality puts the machines to good use.
The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive further noted that the project has the potential to create thousands of direct and in-direct jobs for the teeming youth in the Municipality adding that the program offers opportunities for positions ranging from operators and mechanics through to assistant operators as well as providing extensive continuous training for these operators.
Hon. Laryea was hopeful that the DRIP equipments would be used for its intended purpose in order to prolong its lifespan.
Present at the brief ceremony was Mr. Francis K. Mensah, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Kwame Brefo-Boateng, the Municipal Development Planner, Mr. Joel Dery, Head of Transport, Mrs. Irene Ofei Addo, the Municipal Roads Engineer and other staff of the Assembly.
