The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate Mathew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) to prove those who have accused of arrogance wrong by demonstrating humility and respect in his new role.

Speaking after an outdooring ceremony at Kumasi Jubilee Park on Tuesday July 9, the Asantehene expressed confidence in Napo, urging him to be obedient and submissive to the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He urged him not to make the flagbearer Dr. Bawumia Mahama regret ever selecting him as his partner for the 2024 presidential elections.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II dispelled claims of arrogance associated with Opoku Prempeh stating, “I have not seen any sign of disrespect or arrogance in Mathew Opoku Prempeh while growing up in the palace.”

“So why has this become a topic for discussion,” he questioned.

The Asantehene emphasized the importance of following Dr. Bawumia’s instructions, stressing the need for humility in fulfilling his duties.

“Don’t make Bawumia regret selecting you as his running mate. As his running mate, do his bidding and follow his instructions with obedience and respect,” he said.

Reiterating the advice he had given privately, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II encouraged Napo to use humility and respect in his role.

“Use humbleness and respect to perform your duties. Listen to Dr. Bawumia, and he will tell you what to do,” he said.

He urged him to seek divine guidance in his work and urged him to pray to God always as he performs his work.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II thanked the NPP for holding the event in the Ashanti Region and expressed gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for their roles.

He said, “I thank the NPP for coming together and coming to the Ashanti Region to hold this big programme. I am grateful to President Nana Akufo-Addo for what is happening today in Asanteman, and I am also grateful to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. It is because of him that the entire NPP has gathered in Ashanti for such a programme.”

The Asantehene also commended the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), for resolving misunderstandings and supporting Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s selection.

He entrusted Mathew Opoku Prempeh to Dr. Bawumia, urging the flagbearer to teach and guide him, and to inform him (Asantehene) of issues that may arise between them.
