Ms. Dornukie Naa Norteye, the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Ada Constituency in the just-ended 2024 general election, has called for unity and development for the area after the elections.

Ms. Norteye said: “The time for politics is over; what we need now is development for our dear Ada land.”

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kasseh-Ada, Ms. Norteye, who is also a philanthropist, was grateful for the number of votes she got during the elections, noting that it is a historic performance for the NPP in the Ada Constituency.

Ms. Norteye, who lost to the incumbent member of parliament, Madam Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah, in the parliamentary elections, noted that her aim was to develop the constituency, disclosing further that she hopes to see the incumbent increasing the level of development as Ada deserves better.

“I am ready to assist in any aspect of the development of the area. Madam Doyoe is a mother and sister, and so I have nothing against her. She has been the MP for 12 years and has been given another four-year term, so I am hoping to see the area developing beyond what we are seeing today because this is not the development Ada should be boasting about,” she emphasised.

Ms. Nortey added that the campaigns were done for many months, but the election was only for a day, the reason she subscribed to policy-based campaigns instead of insults and attacks.

This, she said, contributed to the increase in her votes as compared to the votes recorded by the NPP in previous elections.

“I have great respect for every elderly person, and that’s why even though she used awful words and language to describe me during the campaign period, I never retaliated due to my respect for her. I don’t know how she will act when she sees me now that the elections are over, but as for me, I still have a top level of respect for her,” she explained.

She appealed to the public to support the elected member of parliament in her bid to serve the constituency for the next four years, stating further that she believes that the MP could deliver, considering the level of competition that came in the election this year, which, according to her, has never happened before.

Ms. Norteye polled 8,119 votes, representing 26.66, while the incumbent, Madam Ghansah, garnered 22,019 votes, representing 72.37 percent.
