The two gentlemen contested against the former President until the last day when former Finance Minister Dr. Duffuor withdrew from the race citing unresolved anomalies.

Mahama went on to win a landslide victory garnering 98.9 per cent of the total votes cast while his remaining contender, Kojo Bonsu could only poll 1.1%
The former Kumasi Mayor, even before the coalition was completed congratulated Mahama for winning the party’s flagbearership race in a landslide victory.
He disclosed in a Facebook post that he had placed a call to Mr Mahama to congratulate him on his victory.
He wrote, “I have placed a call to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him for the landslide victory.
Just as I’ve indicated throughout my campaign, regardless of the outcome of this election I’ll continue to serve the NDC party.”

It is, however, not clear when Dr Duffuor called to congratulate the NDC’s presidential candidate but Mr. Mahama shared the information in his tweet and indicated that the contest is over.
What the party needs now, he said, is cooperation to build the ‘GhanaWeWant.’
