The programme will support the youth to develop mentorship training to operate their innovative ideas and build the informal sector.

The President, during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, said the initiative was to actualise the promise he made during the electioneering.

“Job creation is one of the main pillars of my government’s promise to the youth of Ghana,” he said.

President Mahama said his government, through the “Adwumawura” Programme, would create, track and mentor businesses annually.

The ministries of the Interior and Youth Development would facilitate training of the youth engaged in the “Okada” business (using motorbikes for commercial purposes) on road safety regulations, financial literacy and digital skills, and assist them to acquire motorbikes.

“We will introduce electric motorcycles on hire purchase scheme to eliminate the use o petrol and make the business more profitable,” he added.

The initiative would equip young people in the informal sector with employable skills, free apprenticeship and start-up kits.
