Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International Ministry, Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has made a fervent appeal to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to stand firm in upholding the rule of law and not to be incited into overthrowing the government in response to the current economic challenges facing the nation.
During a church service on Saturday, August 12th, 2023, Archbishop Duncan-Williams addressed recent video recordings circulating on social media, wherein some young individuals taunted and dared the Ghana Army to intervene in the escalating economic crisis.
“I looked at it and said, this young man was born today he was not born yesterday. We pray for the GAF that God will bless and protect them and that nothing will provoke them to do anything outside of the rule of law,” Archbishop Duncan-Williams passionately expressed.
He emphasized the importance of justice as a foundation for peace, stating “One of the things that guarantee peace is justice. It is said that peace is not the absence of war but the presence of justice.”
Archbishop Duncan-Williams also highlighted the significance of adhering to the Constitution and the rule of law in maintaining a functional democracy.
He called for the continuation of proper governance and democratic processes despite the challenging state of the nation.
“When you change from law to anarchy, nothing works, and that is why we came back to party politics. When we remove the rule of law and take the law into our hands, there will be all kinds of chaos and there will be no progress,” he asserted.
“So where there is no justice and people feel they are being exploited and do not enjoy part of the national cake and feel only a group of people are eating and they are suffering, there will be chaos.”
In a powerful prayer, he sought blessings and mercy for the political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the others, as well as the armed forces.
He fervently prayed against any actions or decisions that could regress the nation’s progress and emphasized the need for the rule of law to prevail in Ghana and other African nations.
“Father, we pray for NDC, and we pray for NPP. We pray for our armed forces. We ask for your blessing and for your mercy. And we pray none of them will do anything or will take any decision that will turn the clock of Ghana backwards.”
“We pray for our nation Ghana, Nigeria and all the other nations that they will not perish but the rule of law shall reign. I pray against all contradictions, against all the problems and the mess in our society. Let the rule of law prevail,” Archbishop Duncan-Williams prayed.
He underscored the importance of maintaining stability through adherence to legal frameworks and democratic principles as Ghana navigates its economic challenges.
