Deputy Majority leader in Parliament in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that Member of Parliament for Ahanta West Constituency was present in the House when the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) was approved on 29th March, 2022.

He refuted claims that the bedridden MP, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, who also serves as Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs was not present in Parliament on that Tuesday.

The votes and proceeding of the house on Tuesday captured the indisposed Mr Kum as present and voted for the e-levy.

The records of parliament, the Deputy Majority leader said, cannot be disputed.

The Minority in Parliament has insisted the Majority did not have the required number to approve the e-levy and has sued the Attorney General over the approval.

But Speaking in an interview with TV3 Mr Afenyo-Markin said “Chieftaincy Minister was present in Parliament per the records.

“Pay attention to a ruling by Mr Speaker, we are getting a bit confused as to this physical presence and you have come to Parliament, you are at the committee, you are doing this, you are doing that, I don’t want to get into that debate yet.

“But I can tell you that relying on the vote which we got today, his name did not register as absent. The records are clear.”

He declined to answer how the minister came to the house due to his health condition.

“I have not heard of how he came, I have not been told how he came, I don’t want to respond to people’s claims of how he came. Whichever way he came is immaterial to me,” the Effutu lawmaker said.
